| bifid: divided, for about half the length, into two parts. cf. bipartite.
cilia: in gametes, spores etc., minute hair-like protoplasmic protrusions whose movement confers motility on the cell; in vascular plants, hairs more or less confined to the margins of an organ. sing. cilium; adj. ciliate. emarginate: having a broad, shallow notch at the apex. petal: a member of the inner whorl of non-fertile parts surrounding the fertile organs of a flower, usually soft and coloured conspicuously. trifid: deeply divided into three parts. |
