Australian Faunal Directory: Links to Associated Sites

ABRS is a programme within Parks Australia Division of the Department of the Environment and Water Resources.

CAVS is a database of biocodes, species names, and distribution at State and Territory level for amphibia, reptiles, birds and mammals found in Australia. Updates of the CAVS list are ongoing.

Platypus is a Microsoft Windows-based, relational database package developed by ABRS to manage taxonomic, geographic, ecological, palaeontological, graphic and bibliographic information, and to generate automatically the Australian Faunal Directory web files and the Zoological Catalogue of Australia books. The CD ROM version of Platypus can be purchased through CSIRO Publishing, or you can download Platypus free of charge from our web-site.

Zoological Catalogue of Australia, a database of taxonomic and biological knowledge to species level of the Australian fauna, is now incorporated into the Australian Faunal Directory. The published part of the Catalogue are derived from the database. See volumes published and in preparation.

Fauna of Australia is a synthesis, to family level, of the primary literature and other available information on the Australian fauna.

ABRS Flora Online, a Web-based source of authoritative information which aims to provide taxonomic and biological information on all algae, bryophyte, fungi, lichen and vascular plant species known to occur in Australia. It includes the recently released Flora of Australia Online.

BIOME: Natural Selection is UK's gateway to high quality internet resources linking to the Natural World. It is co-ordinated by the Natural History Museum, London and is updated on a weekly basis. Australian resources such as ABRS Online Resources are included in this site.

The mission of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility is to make the world's primary data on biodiversity freely and universally available via the Internet.

The GBIF data portal allows you to search for biological records obtained from all the data providers registered with GBIF.

The Australian participant node for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility. ABIF's role is to provide a portal or web page to document and coordinate the activities of the Australian GBIF participants. It is planned to build a data portal that will provide access to checklists of species names and allow for searching of those specimens and observations contained in the biological collections of ABIF participants.
